Family ski resorts in the Pyrenees
At Familytrip, we criss-cross France every year to unearth the best destinations for you and your family. For the Pyrenees, as for other ski dations, we locate the most practical accommodation with children for a ski holiday within the resorts.
The characteristics of the accommodation selected by Familytrip
These accommodations must have a certain number of strong points in order to be listed with us. For a ski holiday, flats can be: close to the slopes, have access to a heated indoor swimming pool, be close to the heart of the resort or the village gondola that takes you to the slopes. In winter, it doesn't have to be all about skiing, as flats can be located close to a balneotherapy centre. In fact, the Pyrenees are historically full of spa resorts, and wellness breaks are legion at places like Loudenvielle and Ax les Thermes. As a result, in the list above you can find a family residence in the resort centre or flats at the foot of the slopes or an all-inclusive hotel club in the resort.
Family resorts referenced by Familytrip
We have selected different family resorts in the Pyrenees so that every family will find something to suit them. They are located in different ski areas so that all skiers will find something to suit them: beginners will have more fun at Saint Lary and skiing at Pla d'Adet, while the more experienced skiers will enjoy La Mongie (Grand Tourmalet area) where there are a third of black or red runs. Here are details of the resorts selected by Familytrip. You'll find advice and practical information for your family holiday.
Cauterets
For your family ski holidays, we recommend an atypical resort which is Cauterets. A small resort in the Pyrenees with 23 pistes, more than half of them are for beginners (green and blue). The foot of the pistes is at an altitude of 1730m and the summit is at 2450m.
Saint Lary Soulan and Font Romeu: 2 village resorts where you have to take a gondola to get to the pistes
These 2 village resorts will be perfect for families with a mix of skiers and non-skiers. The former will be able to stay in the large villages which offer a wide range of non-skiing activities. Others can take the gondola to the foot of the slopes.
Located far to the east, Font Romeu is a pretty village at an altitude of 1,800 metres that has a gondola to take you up to 2,000m. Font Romeu in fact has one of the highest ski areas in the Pyrenees. So the snow is better here than anywhere else.
Saint Lary Soulan is a constellation of villages. The main village is just 830m above sea level, not far from the valley, but the cable car and gondola take you up to the ski area at 1600m and 1700m respectively. Once you arrive at the Pla d'Adet, you'll find a large beginners' area and a whole network of slopes that leads to an annex to Saint Lary, which is Saint Lary Espiaube at an altitude of 1600m. We like to recommend Saint Lary for beginners because as well as the dedicated area for them, once they are experienced they can access the area with a dedicated beginners pass.
Peyragudes (commune of Germ)
Located just 12km as the crow flies to the west of Saint Lary, the resort of Peyragudes is very recent, having been created in 1988. At that time, the Agudes and Peyresourde ski areas were merged to form the Peyragudes resort and ski area. With almost 50 pistes and 18 ski lifts, it is one of the largest resorts in the Pyrenees, with a focus on the spa sector.
You'll still find plenty to do in Peyragudes.
You'll still find plenty of family-friendly resorts for your ski holiday, such as: La Mongie, Les Angles and Piau Engaly. The mountains are full of small resorts, there are 38 in all in the Pyrenees and we've selected around ten of the most family-friendly. And remember: ski equipment hire is available at cost price at Familytrpi to save money on your family ski holiday.
