Familytrip campsites in Normandy
Familytrip has criss-crossed the whole of France, but particularly Normandy, from the D-Day beaches to the Normandy bocage, via the Cotentin peninsula and all the way to Mont Saint-Michel, in order to unearth the best family campsites in the Normandy region.
The types of accommodation to rent at a campsite in Normandy
Familytrip favours fully-equipped accommodation rental over tent or caravan pitch rental. Pitches are certainly less expensive, but you need to be equipped! And when you have a growing family or limited space in the boot, it's not easy to combine everything. That's why Familytrip has selected a range of mobile homes, fully-equipped tents, chalets, caravans... whatever suits your family's needs: more or less space, comfort, good value for money.... You'll find the family accommodation that's just right for you and your children.
To ensure good value for money, we select campsites from 2 to 5 stars, but most are 3 or 4 stars. It's in this range where the best accommodation is found with interesting facilities such as swimming pool, kids club, playground etc.
Equipment and services at campsites in Normandy
At Familytrip, we look for family campsites that like to welcome people travelling with children. We like 3 to 5 star campsites, unusual campsites, campsites in the heart of nature and also the larger campsites with water parks. There's something for every taste and every family. A play area, Wi-Fi, childcare equipment hire and a swimming pool are all essential facilities for a great family holiday. The swimming pool at a family campsite can still be enough for a good time with the family. Especially if the pool is covered and heated! Note: it can sometimes rain in Normandy. So children and parents will enjoy it throughout the outdoor season, from April to October.
Another advantage of the campsites selected by Familytrip is that most have a kids' club or at least entertainment for parents and children. The activities are often themed around nature and the joy of sharing time together. Nature-related activities can take many forms: creating a herbarium, learning how to prepare a trapper's meal, building rafts to test on the beach or the river next door.... More traditionally, the activity leaders organise big games, sports tournaments, aperitif games, etc. The never-ending Miss Campsite elections have given way to more family-oriented activities such as karaoke evenings and giant board games. In short, we favour family activities on a campsite
Normandy, a multi-faceted destination
Located between 1 and 3 hours from Paris, Nantes and Lille, Normandy is strategically placed for urban families looking for a weekend getaway or a holiday with the kids. Upper Normandy lies to the north and Lower Normandy to the south. Following the reorganisation of the regions in 2016, we now have just one region, which simplifies things. In the north, the Seine Maritime is home to some extraordinary places: the cliffs of Etretat, the cathedral and the Rouen Museum of Fine Arts, and spas like Forges-les-Eaux. If you cross the Pont de Normandie from the Seine Maritime you will arrive in Calvados. Calvados is certainly the best-known département (not so much for Calva as for towns like Deauville, on the seafront, or Lisieux). If you continue your route along the D-Day landing beaches on the English Channel, you'll pass Omaha beach (you can take a break and play a round of golf with a view over the sea), Utah beach and you'll arrive in the Cotentin (Manche department). At the far end of the peninsula you'll find some charming little villages, and if you go all the way round you'll come to the Channel Islands and finally the Mont Saint Michel! Crossing the bay of Mont Saint Michel is a superb walk for all the family, at low tide of course. The Channel Islands are not accessible at low tide, but by boat. The crossing takes 1 to 2 hours by ferry from Saint Malo or Granville. Around the mount, the beach is rare at the seaside but it leaves the space to large polders where sheep graze in peace.
Finally, we wouldn't be complete if we didn't head inland from the mont saint Michel to arrive in the Orne. The Orne is one of the most natural departments in existence: you can enjoy visiting the little farm next door, walking in the Norman bocage, which isn't all that flat, the countryside as far as the eye can see, the peace and quiet... We also love Bagnoles de l'Orne, so much so that we've formed lots of partnerships with the Accrobranches or a wellbeing centre!
