Le Barcarès is best known for its seaside tourism. The town boasts several kilometres of fine sandy beaches, which attract large numbers of families during the summer season. Water sports such as sailing, kitesurfing and jet skiing are all available in the area. The area around Le Barcarès also offers a variety of attractions and activities for visitors wishing to explore the region further. Visits to Cathar castles perched on hillsides, offering spectacular panoramic views and an insight into the region's medieval history such as Quéribus, Peyrepertuse and Puilaurens. There's also the Forêt de la Massane Nature Reserve. For nature lovers, this nature reserve offers hiking trails through unspoilt Mediterranean forest, with sea views and interesting biodiversity. The towns of Collioure and Perpignan are also well worth a visit. Of course, given its proximity to the Spanish border, Le Barcarès also offers the chance to discover neighbouring attractions and towns in Spain.
