Vars-les-Claux is a mountain resort in the Hautes-Alpes department. Perched at an altitude of 1,850 metres, it is part of the commune of Vars, at the gateway to the Queyras Regional Nature Park. Vars-les-Claux, with its modern, dynamic atmosphere, is the tourist heart of the resort and a popular destination for winter sports and mountain enthusiasts. In winter, Vars-les-Claux is part of the Forêt Blanche ski area, which links Vars with the neighbouring resort of Risoul. With over 185km of pistes, this area offers a wide variety of runs, suitable for skiers of all abilities. The resort is also world-famous for its speed ski run (kilometre thrown), one of the fastest in the world. As well as skiing, Vars-les-Claux offers other winter activities such as snowparks, snowshoe trekking and dog-sleigh rides.

In summer, the resort becomes an ideal playground for outdoor enthusiasts. Hiking trails take in the Alpine scenery, with larch forests, mountain pastures and panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, including the Massif des Écrins. The Col de Vars, at an altitude of 2,108 metres, is a legendary route for cyclists, regularly used by the Tour de France. Thrill-seekers can also try their hand at downhill mountain biking or paragliding. The resort offers a wide range of activities throughout the year, including concerts, local markets, festivals and sporting events such as the Vars Mountain Trail and the Forêt Blanche Challenge.
